Puppet Show

A couple of weeks ago the kids and I went into Hobby Lobby to get supplies for a project. What should have taken us 5 minutes, ended up taking close to an hour because we had such a good time in the store. We looked at all kinds of things and got all kinds of ideas!!! I had been on the lookout for some crafty things that I could keep at the house to do with the kids on a day when we were stuck inside with nothing to do. I don't like it when we find ourselves in the house for a day or two at a time and the kids get bored with their toys and either misbehave or want to watch TV all the time. So, while we were browsing around I had my eye open for anything that might keep then occupied and give us a project to do together. It wasn't long before I found the perfect thing .... hand puppets!!! They had several kits to choose from and each one came with the makings for 4 puppets for only $5! I let each of the kids pick out 1 package of puppets and I put them away for a "rainy" day.

This week, Isabel is on Spring Break and we have found ourselves with no plans for the whole week! I find myself torn between feeling like a loser for not having plans for a whole week and feeling relieved that we have a whole week to do whatever we want at home. The other day Isabel asked if we could make our puppets and I thought this was the perfect time to bring out a stimulating activity!! I figured we'd make one or two and save the rest for another "rainy" day. The kids ended up needing a lot more help than I thought they would so making one puppet each took us an hour and then it was time for lunch. By the end, Gabe had abandoned us altogether and I ended up doing most of his by myself :)

A couple of days later, we pulled out the supplies again to make another puppet and this time they both abandoned me! That's ok, I had fun making them and the kids had a great time playing with then when I was done.

A helpful hint I learned while making these: Elmer's school glue does NOT work on felt!!!
A helpful hint I learned while making the kids' playhouse: the hot glue gun works FABULOUSLY on felt!!! :)
