Last week, Gabe and I hitched a ride with my parents and travelled to Carlsbad, NM for my grandmother's funeral. We were saddened to be there under the circumstances, but it was so nice to be surrounded by all of our family. While we missed our Ita greatly, we were still able to enjoy each other and have a few laughs while we were together. Perhaps our greatest adventure was our trip to the drive in movie. This was no ordinary movie night. We thought it would be fun to get everyone together and go see a movie at the drive in theater. After all, how many places still have a drive in movie theater? As we were formulating our plan, we realized that there were a heck of a lot of mexicans there and at $10 a car we could end up spending a fortune trying to get everyone in. That's when my cousin, Doly, remembered that my aunt and uncle have an RV! It seemed perfect. We could easily get 15 people in there and it has a bathroom and a microwave!! So, we went out back to check it out and make sure it would start and get us all there in one piece (I think the RV might actually be older than me). Well, they managed to get the RV running and we cleaned it all out so that it was ready for a trip to the movies!!! Our next challenge lay in getting it out of the driveway. My aunt and uncle have a lot of property and the RV was parked in the back. It had been raining for two days before that so the ground was soft and muddy and there were even a few mud puddles in our way. So we covered the puddles with cardboard and my cousin, Eric, gunned it all the way to the front of the driveway!! I tried to get pictures of this, but due to the high speed at which he was driving and the fact that I was laughing so hard I was crying, I missed the Kodak moment. We thought that if we were going to do this, we needed to do it right, so we grabbed some pizzas and some microwave popcorn and loaded them up, and we stuffed the bathroom full of lawn chairs. Then we piled 15 mexicans into the RV and tuned the radio to the Mexican station and we were off. Now when I say we tuned the radio to the Mexican station, I mean we found it and then we turned it up as loud as we could and drove through town with the windows open. The only thing missing was laundry flapping in the wind behind us. Anyway, so we arrived at the drive in and then set up camp in front of the RV. The movie was great, the food was great, and the company was even better!!! This was definitely a memory for the Palma family book of adventures!!!
