One of the main reasons why we vacation in California is we have tons of family and friends there. We did lots of visiting during our two week stay and we really enjoyed getting to see family that we don't see on a regular basis. We spent a couple of days visiting my dad's brother and sister and enjoyed the most delicious homemade Mexican food you'll ever eat! We spent a day with my mom's dad and introduced him to Gabe for the first time. We had a family BBQ with my mom's sisters and mom on the 4th of July. And we got to hang out with one of Joel's friends and her family in Covina. They haven't seen each other in 10 years!!! Ok, we've come to visit all of you ... now it's your turn to come here!
We did have a bit of an adventure on our way to Covina .....
That morning they issued an Amber Alert in LA because 5 children had been kidnapped the night before. We headed towards the LA area around 9 am and all was going very smoothly until we merged onto the 5 Freeway and headed into LA. All of a sudden traffic was at a dead stop. We were a little baffled since it was a Sunday morning and things had been moving fine up until that point. We waited patiently without moving for 10 minutes or so and then started to notice that people were getting out of their cars and walking around on the freeway. The guy next to us got out of his car, cranked his music up, and proceeded to dance right there on the 5!! I just love Cali!! It seemed that whatever was holding us up was only a little ways in front of us, but we couldn't make out what it was. After about 30 minutes at a dead stop, traffic started to move again. I was expecting to see a horrible accident or emergency vehicles at the very least .... what we saw was NOTHING! Not a flashing light or a stray piece of glass anywhere. Our best guess is that they were stopping and checking cars due to the Amber Alert. We continued to drive and as we entered Pasadena Isabel started talking about something she had discovered in the back seat of the car. I turned around to see what it was and realized that it was the seat belt that was holding Gabe's carseat in. It was unbuckled and we were crusing down the freeway at 75 mph!! In a panic, I told Joel to pull over so we took the next exit and he rebuckled the carseat in. After all was said and done, we were an hour late for our visit, but at least we made it right???
Also, as many of you know, I went to college at APU and Covina is only a few minutes away from Azusa. So, we took a detour and visited my old home ..... made me kind of miss it :(
