Fall 2009

We have had a very low key (some might even say boring) fall so far. We are in a very comfortable routine with school and playdates and being home ...... this would explain the lack of postings this month. I have been taking a few pictures and here is a run-down on what we've been up to this month.

We've had a couple of pretty good snow storms already. We've had a few days where we were couped up in the house with nothing but movies and popcorn and each other!

We had to snuggle together on the couch for warmth!

I even put the kids to work doing dishes for me .....

Just kidding! They were playing, but only after I had done all of the dishes!

And tonight, we went to the Harvest Gathering at church. Our church holds this event every year and it is supposed to be great and fun and safe, but I've found myself avoiding it for the last 5 years (that would be since Isabel was born). I really do not like Halloween and most of the time I'd rather lock myself in my house and pretend that it isn't happening. This year, since Halloween fell on a Saturday and the kids are getting older we thought maybe we could venture out to see if this Harvest Gathering is really as great as everyone says it is. Isabel had to have a costume for a party at school so I already had that ready and Gabe was set too after a trip to Walmart and some mascara .......

They had face painting and Isabel decided (after much coaxing) that she might like to have her face painted. We waited in line and I told her to be thinking of what she wanted so she could tell the lady when it was her turn. When she got up to the chair the lady asked her what she wanted and without hesitation she said, "Can you do Snow White?" I was sure the lady would politely say no and suggest something else like a butterfly or a ladybug. Not this lady!! She said sure she could do it and went to work. The final product was beautiful and pretty darn accurate! Isabel's face got itchy in the car on the way home so she scratched it a bit before I could take this photo, but you get the idea. Amazing, no? She was so proud of it. She was telling complete strangers all about it every time we had to wait in line!

They also had a HUGE firetruck slide. This was the big deal all night and we waited until just before we left to do it. The kids went in by themselves without Joel or myself. I was pretty surprised about that and wasn't sure how Gabe would do. The kind slide attendant helped him to the top and then let him go down on his own. I was standing ready at the bottom with the camera to take this picture. He wasn't too sure about it at first, but as soon as he realized that we were there waiting for him, he decided it was AWESOME!

I just love those big brown eyes!

All in all the Harvest Festival was a great success and it is every bit as fun as they say it is. The kids had a blast and we came home with a whole bucket full of candy!!!! I think we might have to make this an annual tradition!

Well, things should start to pick up for us now that November is here. Isabel's birthday is this coming week and then the holiday season will be upon us!! Stay tuned for all of the fun holiday happenings!
