Gabe has been looking a little shaggy lately. He has this beautiful curly hair and I'm always hesitant to cut it too short because I love to see those little curls. When it came time for Gabe's first haircut, I put him up on the bathroom counter and used the clippers to cut it short. I did this a couple of times and each time I did it Gabe became more and more afraid of the clippers. It got so bad that the last time I did it he was standing in the tub screaming and shaking. After that I decided we'd have to figure something else out because I wasn't going to do that again. We let his hair grow for awhile and then Joel's aunt came to visit and she gives legendary haircuts, so we asked her to do it with scissors. She did a great job and even left some of those adorable curls that we love! Well, that was in the beginning of August and Aunt Jennie lives in Kentucky so it was beginning to get a little unruly up there on Gabe's head. We finally decided to ask Joel's mom if she would want to try to cut it for us. (We are trying to keep it in the family here ..... it seems like a big waste of money to pay $15+ for a haircut on a 2 year old) So, after the apple picking party on Sunday, Joel's mom stayed to cut Gabe's hair. When we told him he was going to get a hair cut he freaked out. There was much screaming and clutching and clawing. I started out by holding him in my arms. Every time Joel's mom came at him with the scissors he clutched and clawed and screamed even more. My cousin Dora was here at the time and she came over with a cup full of crushed ice! This is Gabe's FAVORITE thing and after a few bites he started to calm down. By this time Joel's mom was able to get a few more snips in and he began to realize that it wasn't scary after all. He eventually sat in the chair and let Joel's mom finish the haircut ........ as long as the ice went with him. About 15 minutes later he was all done!! Now we know the secret to having a peaceful haircut is a cup of crushed ice!!! Thanks Janice and Dora for your help and quick thinking!!!!!
