My friend, Alexis, posted these pictures on facebook about a week ago. As I was looking through her photo album I decided I HAVE to have one of these!!!!!!!! For those who can't see the link, it is a felt playhouse that slips over a card or kitchen table. Alexis gets many of her great ideas from the blog Homemade By Jill and I am not ashamed to say I often rip off her good ideas!! The playdough we made a few weeks ago was an idea that came to me from Alexis who got the idea from Homemade By Jill!!
So anyway, I got this idea from Alexis and decided I was going to do it! Let me just preface this post by saying that I am absolutely, positively NOT crafty. I DO NOT draw, creative and unique ideas DO NOT come to me naturally, and I absolutely DO NOT sew!! I can stitch up a seam or sew on a button, but even that looks amateurish. So, taking on this project ... which requires drawing and creativity and sewing .... is a HUGE endeavor. But, I have a will that rivals iron and if I decide to do something by-golly I'm going to do what it takes to get it done!!!! (Joel hates it when the iron will kicks in ... it usually ends up costing us money!) So, anyway, I asked Alexis for some pointers on what she did and I did my research. I spent a few days browsing through several websites that featured pictures of people who had also made a playhouse. I picked out the things that I liked best and I grabbed a sheet of paper. I started to draw up "blueprints" of how I wanted each side to look.
I know the photo doesn't capture the pencil drawings very well, but I'd just like to toot my own horn here for a minute .......... I DREW everything you see on these drawings ...... by myself!! .... without tracing!! .... by myself!!!!!!! And you can actually tell what it is supposed to be!
Ok, so after I drew everything, I colored it in ... with crayon! Many of you know that I LOVE to color! Any excuse to color is GREAT for me! I am a visual learner and colored my drawings in so that I could visualize all the colors that I needed without forgetting something or buying something incorrectly.
So, with the fabric purchased, I set to work on cutting and placing things together. This is what I have done so far .......
I am nervous about all the sewing to come ..... I will have to sew everything onto the playhouse and then sew all the sides together. I borrowed a sewing machine from my sister-in-law who promised to include the manual so that I can figure out how to work the darn thing. Alexis has been a great cheerleader and continues to reassure me that I WILL NOT SCREW IT UP! (Thanks, Friend!) I'll do my best to keep you updated on my progress!

It's looking great! I was very impressed with Alexis' when I saw it a few days ago and filed it away for future reference too. Don't worry about the sewing...just take it slow and you'll do fine. I just recently started sewing again for the first time since Home Ec class in jr. high and it's become a new love of mine.
And, I vote you save it for Christmas. Something you put that much time into is worthy of a special occasion.
Oh my gosh it is SO cute! I LOVE it. I can't wait to see it when it as all done!
For the record, you and Alexis are both CRAZY PEOPLE.
But, I'm sending my kid over to play under your table, because that playhouse look like a heckofalotta fun. That is, when I have a kid.
