Playhouse Update

I've been working hard on our felt playhouse! This month has been very busy and I've only been working in the evenings after the kids go to bed so it's sort of slow moving, but progress is being made and that's the important thing!! I've pretty much finished three sides and am working on the last side now. Then I will do the roof and we'll be ready to start sewing!!! I decided to do all the cutting first and then sew everything together last .... that way I have more time to make changes and alterations if I need or want to. Also, I have been pinning EVERYTHING (you'll see in the pictures) because I don't have the luxury of leaving my work out until I have time to work on it again. I am doing all of my work at the kitchen table and I have to clean it all up when I go to bed and drag it all out again when I'm ready to continue. So, I pin everything so that I can remember what goes where and so I can visualize :) ... remember - BIG visual learner here! I've gone through 2 containers of head pins already!! Anyway, here's what I have so far .....

This is the completed apple tree! I'm very happy with how it came out. I still have to put some detailing on the dog (with the sewing machine) and there will be removable flowers in the window box. Also the apples will hang on the tree from buttons and will be removable. I think I will eventually make other kinds of fruit so they can switch out. I also thought about an apple basket, but decided it was too much work for now.

Here is the fishing pond!! You can see the pockets in the pond and there will be magnetic fish in there soon! I'm also going to be making a magnetic fishing pole so the kids can "fish" in the pond. The large green blobs on the right are going to be a frog and a turtle. I need to go to the store to buy a few more colors to finish up (another shade of green is one of them). I'm waiting for payday to come so I can finish buying my materials. Do you think the frog is a little too big? I feel like I need to make him smaller. The only reason I haven't attempted it yet is because I had to resize the duck about 3 times and that was an ugly nightmare. I still hate his tail, but was too exasperated to change it again. Leave a comment and let me know what you think about the frog.
(I'd also like to just toot my own horn here ... I drew everything you see here but the fish by myself ... free hand ... with no stencil or template!!!!!! ME!! With no artistic ability!!! TOOT TOOT!!)

I'm currently working on the front of the house. I'm having trouble with that one because the stuff I planned to put on it won't fit so I'm having to re-design. The good news is everything is already cut out. It's just a matter of placing it now. The top will have a sun and clouds so that should be pretty easy and fast moving. I'll keep you posted and I'm sure I'll have many more adventures to share when I start sewing!!!

Looking good! I have a suggestion about the door- go with a rectangle shape and not the curved top like I did. I am having trouble with the door not laying right so I may have to rip it off and do it again. I can't wait to see the finished project. I just made the fishing pole this week and Hannah thinks it is the coolest thing ever!

Looking great, Meg! I think the size of the frog is fine so don't worry about it. Can't wait to see the finished project. You and Alexis have definitely inspired me to make one when my little daughter is bigger. Did you decide to wait until Christmas to give it to them or are you going to give it to them when you're finished?

Al, I did cut the door in a rectangle because I was afraid the curved top would be too much for me! haha

Brie, at this point it's looking like a Christmas gift .. I think it's going to take me that long to finish it and the kids have not discovered it yet. I think you were right before ... all that work deserves a BIG presentation!! Also, if you decide to make one I have a TON of fabric left over ... I have enough of the blue to make 4 more walls!!

Thanks for the encouragement girls!

VERY impressive! Looks like a lot of work but a ton of fun! Your kiddos are lucky to have a mommy who works so hard for them :)
