We had another prenatal appointment on Thursday. The first thing I did was get on the scale and my jaw just about dropped when I saw how much weight I had gained since my last appointment. My weight gain during this pregnancy has been pretty slow, but in the last 3 weeks or so my appetite has increased by A LOT! Merrie says I am just catching up because I haven't been gaining a lot of weight. She said she could tell by looking at me when I came in that my belly had gotten bigger since my last visit. She said the baby probably just had a growth spurt. These assumptions were confirmed when she measured my belly and found that I am measuring a few weeks ahead of my due date. I was assured that this is nothing to worry about and that he did in fact have a growth spurt. She says this happens once or twice during most pregnancies. We are going to continue to monitor the growth of my uterus, and if it continues to grow like that, Merrie will have to do another ultrasound to measure the baby. My mom tells me that big boys run in the family. That was very reassuring!! :) Merrie didn't seem to be concerned at all, so I am trying not to be either. I'm just praying that I don't have to push out a 10 pounder. We also had a final ultrasound to verify the baby's sex. Merrie is 110% sure it is a boy!! She said that he looks to be very chubby. We got a close up of his face and his cheeks are very pronounced! If you know my family well, you will know that big, round cheeks run in the family! Apparently, this baby has picked up several of the Yslas (my mom's family) traits. Other than the major growth spurt ...which is actually a good thing because it means the baby is healthy ... everything is looking very regular! The baby's heart beat was in the 140's and 150's and he is still active! I will have another appointment in 3 weeks and then I will start seeing Merrie every 2 weeks until the end of my 3rd trimester. (My third trimester starts in about 3 weeks) It is started to get closer!! I pulled some hand-me-down clothes out of the basement this week and I am going to begin stocking the dresser once I can get them all washed. We are also planning on setting up the crib this week.
We are still trying to decide on a name. I made a baby name poll on babycenter.com. If you did not get an email from me, go to this website http://click.babycenter.com/b/?le=7YM1&cn=emailafriend&en=20070528&pe=0&t=0 and vote for the name you like best.
Here's how the baby is growing this week.....Head to heels, your baby
now measures about 13 1/2 inches. His weight — a pound and a half — doesn't sound like much, but he's beginning to exchange his long, lean look for some baby fat. As he does, his wrinkled skin will begin to smooth out and he'll start to look more and more like a newborn. His hair is probably recognizable now (in color and texture), although both may change after he's born.
